The holiday was created in 1908 by Anna Jarvis because she wanted to accomplish her mothers dream of making a celebration for all mothers. She campaigned and promoted the holiday until President Woodrow Wilson made it an official national holiday in 1914. Since then, Americans have continued to celebrate Mothers Day on the second Sunday in May.
