The Cairn Terrier is one of the oldest terrier breeds. It originated in the Scottish Highlands and was used mainly for hunting burrowing prey among the cairns. Originally named Short-haired Skye terriers, it was changed by The Kennel Club due to opposition from Skye Terrier breeders. The breed gained even greater popularity thanks to "Toto" from The Wizard of Oz.
