This Prestige sculpture comprises 18 different parts - including the base, tail, horse's legs, leopard's legs, horse's head, as well as Alexander's arms, legs, and torso - each cast separately using slip in plaster of Paris moulds. It takes a day to cast and assemble each figure. After careful drying, it's fired in a kiln at around 2282 Fahrenheit. The decorating process can take a week and involves four more kiln firings. Some 22 colors are used to paint each figure, including platinum detailing on the breastplate and 22-carat gold trim burnishes on the bridle. The result is a stunning Royal Doulton Prestige sculpture, which is issued in a limited edition of 50.">

Designer:Alan Maslankowski
Height:18'' (45.36cm)
Series:Prestige

Alexander the Great is the fourth in a series of Prestige studies of famous riders and horses, after Charge of the Light Brigade, Henry V at Agincourt, and St George. Born in 356 BC, he took the throne after his father was assassinated in 336 BC - and conquered the Persian Empire within three years. It's a classic Royal Doulton Prestige figure, which vividly brings to life the spirit of a man who changed history. This piece features burnished 22-carat gold highlights, an ingeniously designed leopard skin saddle, and a special Prestige Collection back stamp. It's the first time Alexander has appeared as a Royal Doulton figurine.

Master sculptor Alan Maslankowski said, "Modeling Alexander was a terrific experience. I especially enjoyed sculpting the head, ensuring every detail was correctly formed, and I particularly liked shaping Buchephalus' eye. There were, as ever, the challenges of pose, costume, and color, but my main interest in this piece was the fact that the horse was almost as famous as Alexander himself. Throughout history, certain military commanders had an almost telepathic relationship with war-horses, such as El Cid and Babica and the Duke of Wellington and Copenhagen. In my sculpture I wanted to express the powerful relationship between Alexander and Bucephalus."

Commemorate Britain's rich military heritage with this outstanding Royal Doulton Prestige Figure of Lawrence of Arabia.

Cairo-based intelligence officer T E Lawrence (1888-1935) was one of the architects of guerrilla warfare, leading the Arab insurgency against the Turks during the First World War. He led numerous attacks on bridges and supply trains, and enjoyed famous victories in capturing Aqaba and Damascus. Immortalized by the classic David Lean film of 1962 starring Peter O'Toole, Lawrence's maverick exploits are also recorded in the thrilling autobiography, "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom." Tragically, Lawrence died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in May 1935. Profoundly affected by the experience of unsuccessfully treating Lawrences head injuries from the accident, neurosurgeon Hugh Cairn later developed the motorcycle crash helmet, ultimately saving the lives of countless motorcyclists.

With Lawrence of Arabia, you can display a quintessential British hero, made by a quintessential British ceramics company, Royal Doulton.
