Sir Winston Leonard Churchill (1874 - 1965) became one of the greatest political leaders in world history, reaching the height of his fame as the heroic Prime Minister of Great Britain during World War II. Churchill was also a noted soldier, speaker and author.

On May 10, 1940, Churchill was named Prime Minister and offered his people only “blood, toil, tears and sweat” in the struggle to keep their freedom. Refusing to give in against Hitler, despite the huge odds against them, Churchill's faith in victory inspired the British to “their finest hour.” In 1950, Time magazine named Churchill “Man of the Century” and in a 2002 poll to identify the “100 Greatest Britons,” Churchill was voted the most important of all.
