This jug was issued in a limited edition of 2,500 to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the English Civil War in 1642. It is unusual in the sense that it is the first three-handled character jug ever produced by Doulton. On Charles's left Oliver Cromwell forms the handle, on his right, Queen Henrietta. The third handle, at the King's back and not seen in the photograph, is a plume.

With the leadership of Sir Francis Drake, her Royal Navy defeated the Spanish Armada and Philip's attempted invasion of England. Issued by Lawleys By Post in 1988, this jug was one of a pair (with King Philip of Spain) that was produced to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588. Both jugs were issued in limited editions of 9,500 pieces.
