This jug has minor color variation in the hair. The earliest jugs had brown hair, and later jugs either grey or white hair. This jug was produced with and without pink highlighting on the raised character name.

Anne Boleyn (1502 - 1536) became the second wife of Henry VIII in a secret ceremony performed in January 1533. Their marriage was officially sanctioned in May by Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Cranmer, and she was crowned Queen on June 1, 1533, in Westminster Hall. Unable to produce the son Henry VIII desired, Anne was imprisoned in the Tower of London of false grounds of adultery. She was beheaded with a sword on May 19, 1536, in a courtyard of the Tower of London (the modeler's use of an axe to form the handle was incorrect). Anne Boleyn was the mother of Queen Elizabeth I, born on September 7, 1533.

In a political arrangement by Thomas Cromwell, Anne of Cleves (1515 - 1557) was chosen to marry Henry VIII upon seeing his dull and unattractive betrothed, whom he later referred to as his "Flanders Mare," Henry attempted unsuccessfully to break the contract. Anne became his fourth wife on January 6, 1540, for only a brief time. Henry had the marriage annulled on July 8th of that year and gave Anne a pension of life.

A song by Sir Harry Lauder, a 20th-century singer and comedian, called "Bang Went Sixpence." inspired this piece. In it a Scotsman named Mac found the prices too high in London because every time he made a move, "band went sixpence," which is incised on the back of his tam, below "Auld Mac."

This jug was commissioned by Island Galleria, Nassau, Bahamas, in a special edition of 1,000 jugs. The D number 6912 is also the numerical designation of The Snake Charmer.

Captain Ahab sailed the whaler, Pequod, in Herman Melville's great 19th century American classic, "Moby Dick". He lost a leg and then his life in pursuit of the great white whale, who triumphed in the chase and sunk his ship.

This character jug of the year for 1995 commemorates Captain Bligh and the Mutiny on the Bounty. In 1789 the crew of the Bounty, under the leadership of Christian Fletcher, mutinied and set Bligh adrift in an open boat. He survived a 3,500-mile voyage before reaching land.

  Capt Henry Morgan

A privateer pirate leader in the West Indies, Morgan (1635 - 1688) carried out commissions from the British authorities. His attack on Panama in 1671 violated a peace treaty between England and Spain. Sent to England to stand trial, he was instead knighted and became Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica, where he remained until his death.
