CHARACTER & TOBY JUGS

The standard Royal Doulton character jug range, featuring popular personalities, has included more than 300 different subjects creating an exciting collecting challenge. The ambitious and keen collector will try to find them all, but as the range continues to expand the task becomes more daunting! Royal Doulton's brilliant creative director, Charles Noke, was well into his seventies when he introduced character jugs in 1933. His fertile imagination was still working overtime in 1939 when he adapted his most famous characters into a collection of useful gifts known as derivatives, that included musical jugs, tobacco jars, sugar bowls, toothpick holders and teapots.
