There can be few more English sights than to watch hounds in full cry followed by the huntsmen in their pink with the field galloping behind. Fox-hunting has been popular in England since the 18th century as, unlike shooting, it was not a restricted sport and anyone could and did join in. With the spreading of enclosures and the growth of hedgerows and walls dividing up the fields jumping became common and the centuries-old European style of collected riding gave way in England to one based on the dash and free movement required on the hunting field. The tasks of the Master himself arc varied, ranging from hunting two to three times a week during the season to maintaining goodwill amongst the local farmers and landowners and controlling the riders of the Hunt. He is helped by a Huntsman and one or two whippers-in who help control the pack. The hounds themselves (never called dogs) are paired off into couples and the size of the pack is given in couples.

The oval-shaped jug, with its lip modeled as a rooster's head, shows a pack of hounds running across a field hunting for the fox who sits under a tree, dressed in Pink, calmly watching the chase. The handle is in the form of a whip with the thong trailing around the base. This jug is commonly known as the MFH jug.
