Shakespeare (1564 – 1616) was born in Stratford-upon-Avon. Apparently he moved to London in 1585 and by 1592 he had emerged as a promising actor and playwright. He was a part of the theatre company, the King’s Men of James I. Throughout his London career, and in 1599, he became the new owner of the Globe Theatre. Immensely successful as a playwright, director, poet, and actor, Shakespeare was said to have been quite wealthy by the time he returned to Stratford in 1613.
