“Sister, St. Thomas Hospital” is one of a series of 4 figurines, called “Nursing Sisters,” produced for Royal Worcester in the 1960s. The nursing sister of the Nightingale Training School of St. Thomas’s Hospital wears a black polka dot dress with her badge insignia and a white nurse’s cap. She is seated in a very detailed chair, holding a book. Modeled by Ruth Van Ruyckevelt, the figurine was issued in 1958 in a limited edition of 500. The Nightingale Nursing School was set up by Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) in 1860 as part of St Thomas Hospital in London. The school is still in existence, now called the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery.
