This rare Sung Glazed Flambé Model of “The Smiling Buddha,” by legendary Royal Doulton art director Charles Noke, was produced in 1925. It features tones of blue and purple against the red ground. Doulton Flambé Glaze Pottery is among the studio’s most collectible and popular creations. Manufactured in the early 20th Century from techniques perfected over 500 years ago in Sung Dynasty China, Royal Doulton artisans produced striking, deep red porcelain glaze pieces, called flambé because of its resemblance to flames.
