The Countess of Harrington wears a Grecian style silk gown with a scarf trim which matches the plume in her hair. The wreath she carries is made of hand-carved and hand-painted flowers.
Reynolds Ladies is a series inspired by the portraits of Sir Joshua Reynolds and designed by Peter Gee. The pieces were each introduced in a limited edition of 5,000 from 1991-1993.
Over two centuries ago, Joshua Reynolds reached the pinnacle of success as a great portrait painter for high society in London. His work, remarkable for its expressive qualities and richness of color, has survived through many generations to be enjoyed today as much as it was then. Royal Doultons series represents an equally outstanding achievement – again, almost two centuries of enduring art and a heritage which remains unsurpassed.
This beautiful collection of four prestigious, limited edition figures is a tribute to these two traditions, bringing together the portraits of Joshua Reynolds and the ceramic artistry of Royal Doulton. The collection, first introduced in 1991 in a limited edition of 5,000; required considerable dedication, research and commitment to transform the subjects of four Reynolds portraits into figures. This is a collection for the connoisseur – an exceptional marriage of fine art, past and present.
