Royal Doulton Character Jug, W.C. Fields D6674 – American Express Edition (black, grey and yellow coloration). Designed by David B. Biggs. Series: The Celebrity Collection, issued 1983 – Sp. ed. Size: 7.5″H (Large)
Born Claude William Dukenfield (1880 – 1946), W.C. Fields began his entertainment career at the age of 11 as a juggler. Much later he appeared in the Ziegfeld Follies and then in 1925 began his work in film. With his rasping voice and bulbous nose, he became a very successful satiric comedian. The following quote appears on the base of the jug; “I was in love with a beautiful blonde once. She drove me to drink – ’tis the one thing I’m indebted to her for.’
