The Gentle Arts collection, for the second time in Royal Doultons history, offers a series of crinoline ladies for which Royal Doulton was so famous for throughout the world. The first collection, Lady Musicians, were eagerly sought after by artistically sensitive collectors. The Gentle Arts series followed this success with an original theme that captures the leisurely pursuits proper to proper English gentlewomen of the 18th century. Aristocratic ladies of the day found many fruitful ways to fill their days and their artistic expressions flourished in gentle hobbies such as embroidering, painting, music and writing. This collection was created to give romantic insight into the charm of a bygone era.
Inspired by her four-legged muse, this writer is dressed in a light green gown adorned with bright red roses along the skirt.
The Gentle Arts series represents six types of artistic expression enjoyed by 18th century ladies. Unlike other series’, each figurine has been created in vellum bone china, and comes with a coordinating accessory associated with her particular skill.
