Large numbers of volunteer firemen were needed to assist the regular fireman during the World War II bombing of London and other cities of Great Britain. It was through the courage of the Auxiliary Fire Service (A.F.S.) that many of the fires of the air raids were held in check. The Heroes of the Blitz set of jugs were commissioned by Lawleys BY Post in a limited edition of 9,500 sets.
