This is a Royal Doulton Prototype of Athos, one of the main characters in the 1844 historical novel “The Three Musketeers” by Alexandre Dumas, from a private estate in Northern Michigan. Modeled by Robert Tabbenor in June 1978, he was part of a Three Musketeers series that was planned but not produced. Athos wears the uniform and tabard of the King’s Musketeers, his hand resting on his sword hilt. Set in the 17th century, “The Three Musketeers” tells the adventures of a young man, d’Artagnan, who travels to Paris to join the King’s Musketeers. Athos is noble, handsome, secretive, and very protective of d’Artagnan.
