This magnificent figurine is inspired the storybook “1001 Arabian Nights”. From the pomp and splendor of Princess Badoura’s flowing lilac dress to the detail on the elephant that bears her, this is an impressive and lavish portrayal, complete with highlights of 22-carat gold. Made available in a limited edition of 500 by Royal Doulton, this highly collectable piece was modeled by Robert Tabbenor after the famous original.
The original figurine was modeled by H. Tittensor, Harry E. Stanton, and F. Van Allen Phillips. Harry Stanton was a master-in-charge at Burslem School of Art when he first exhibited Princess Badoura at Wembley in 1924, just as Royal Doulton was at the forefront of the ‘Potteries’ renaissance in figure making. Added to the Royal Doulton range in 1952, it is based on the Arabian Nights story about a Chinese princess and her love for a Persian prince. In it, she is described as “the most beautiful woman ever seen upon the earth.”.
