According to Greek myth, the goddess Athena bestowed young warrior Bellerophon with a golden bridle with which to tame Pegasus, a majestic winged horse. Together horse and rider slew the fire-breathing monster Chimera. However, when they flew to heaven to join the gods, Pegasus ascended while Bellerophon fell from the sky and the two were separated forever. Today, Pegasus remains immortalized as a constellation of stars..
