During this time of continued experimentation, a further glaze, named Titanian was discovered in 1915. The unique Titanian glaze uses a titanium oxide which produces a bluey colour. Examples of Titanian ware can vary from white to dark blue glazes.
It was often used as the background to Doulton’s fine porcelain wares that were painted typically with birds, but also oriental figures and flowers by leading artists including Harry Allen and Harry Tittensor. Examples of Titanian ware are scarce and the majority are unique examples, which explains the high prices collectors are willing to pay to own examples of this outstanding ware.
