Like its larger counterpart, this loving-cup was also made to commemorate the accession of Edward VIII but is much less elaborate in design than the larger version. On one side is a frontal portrait of Edward as Prince of Wales with the Prince’s personal insignia of three ostrich feathers to either side with flags representing Scotland, Ireland, Australia and new Zealand. Below are incised Tudor roses, thistles and shamrocks, the emblems of England, Scotland and Ireland together with a shield bearing the Royal Arms. On the reverse is a profile of the king in coronation regalia above the legend ‘GOD SAVE THE KING’ The Union Jack and the White Ensign are to either side. Incised on the cup are the names of various Commonwealth countries and provinces: Jamaica, New South Wales, Kenya, Crown Colony Ceylon, Natal, South Africa, Canada, Australia, India and Quebec.
